Itinerary
VELIKO TURNOVO – KAZANLUK – PLOVDIV – RILA MONASTERY

Day1 SOFIA – VELIKO TURNOVO - ARBANASSI
Departure to Veliko Turnovo - the ex-capital city of The Second Bulgarian Kingdom (1185 – 1396). City tour in the old town and the historic Tzarevetz Hill. Visit the museum village of Arbanassi – the royal residence during The Second Bulgarian Kingdom. Sightseeing tour with visit of the oldest and richly decorated Nativity Church (1637-1649) and The Konstantsaliev House presenting 19th century Arbanassi lifestyle.
Accommodation and overnight in Veliko Turnovo. Optional – Sound & Light Show.

Day 2 ETARA – KAZANLAK - PLOVDIV
Breakfast. Departure to Etara – an open air ethnographic museum, presenting the typical Bulgarian handicrafts during the Revival period.
The road proceeds though the Balkan Mountains (by the historic Shipka pass) to the town of Kazanlak where The Rose Festival takes place every year during the first weekend of June. Visit to the famous Kazanlak Thracian tomb (included in the UNESCO world heritage list).
Arrival in Plovdiv - one of the most romantic places in Europe. Accommodation and overnight in Plovdiv.

Day 3 PLOVDIV – RILA MONASTERY - SOFIA
Breakfast. Guided tour in the Old town of Plovdiv – a reserve of Bulgarian National Revival architecture (19-th century) with visit to The Ethnographical museum and Roman amphitheatre.
Departure to Sofia. On the way – a visit to The Rila Monastery - picturesque located in the heart of Rila Mountains. It is the most famous monument of Bulgarian culture, spiritual centre for Bulgarians for more than 10 centuries. The icons, iconostasis and murals are samples of the outstanding Bulgarian renaissance art schools from the National Revival period. The interior is a beautiful interlace of colonnades arches, wooden staircases and verandas. The museum keeps rich collection of books, manuscripts and icons.
Drive to Sofia. End of services.
