The rose festival is a very specific reflection of the customs, culture and spirit of the local people. Its ancient history has treasured and preserved the ritual, called "Rose picking", with lots of folk bands and specially dressed mummers vibrantly warming up the crowd. The Queen Rose confers a prize to the best and most skilful rose-picker. The field resounds with songs, the guests adorn themselves with rose wreaths, and they have a treat with rose jam and brandy. The joyous parade or youth, beauty and flowers pack the streets of the town.
This is the most wonderful experience that you could plan to have on your way traveling in Bulgaria in June. Look far and wide at this sea of roses and your heart and soul will be overjoyed with peace and beauty.
